+ my book is an unconventional travel guide for backpackers! mostly random facts about different places
1) I have about 18 countries I'm writing about, and each has 8 pages of text+illustrations. I was going to organize them into different continents (America, Asia, Europe) and put 3 books in a box, but Reg suggested that they can be 18 separate leaflets. I'm tempted to do both and I can't decide what to do! (the size of each page is 4" X 6", standard postcard size)

2) For illustrations, I tried to do a very messy sketch-like drawings (ex: Frank Gehry's) but it ended up being too messy. Should I keep the style or try a more realistic, clean-cut ilustrations?
3) haven't decided on the name of the book yet. here are some of the options:
-truetravel
-we all have good reasons for leaving
-must get out
-ask me to stay
-goodbye for the last
-waiting for a train
-littlest things
-another story
-through the window
-this is not a travel guide
1) I would think that it's cute to have smaller and thinner books with your topic since people will not necessarily need to bring all the books with them when they are traveling.
ReplyDelete3) ask me to stay - nostalgic but it really depends on what type of illustration you go with. because the Frank Gehry's type will be more abstract and not nostalgic since most people do not necessarily recognize the places you are trying to draw.
1) What if you did do 18 leaflets? but just package them according to continent?
ReplyDelete2) I kind of like the idea of a loose style rather than a clean one but it should be kind of controlled messy, if that makes sense, so it looks intentionally aesthetic rather than scribbly.
ReplyDelete3) this is not a travel guide
or
as my to stay
One is kind of cute and fun and the other is kind of interesting and different.
222222!
ReplyDeleteI chose to answer this because I know you! I think your illustration style will make the book so epic! Why give up your awesome style and do Frank Gehry's? What I meant by "your style" is the comics that you usually draw on sketch book. That would really add to the book and it will look nice!!!!!!
(I thought I replied to yours already...)
ReplyDelete2. If you're saying they are too messy, then try clean cut illustrations. It'll lend itself to be more understood than messy drawings.
3. Ask me to stay. is a good title because it has an emotional connection between people and it asks more than just "to stay" but also "why?".
1. I like having the 18 smaller books - you can package them by combining them based on the continents each country belongs to, this allows you to better organize it. I just realized Jackie said the same thing... so it must be a good idea?
ReplyDelete2. Do the style you're more comfortable with, based on the mood of the book you can go with either or. If you're making a traditional crisp guide book - cleaner drawings are better. If you're attempting a more nostalgic and emotional mood then maybe a looser style of drawing is better.
2. do you have enough information to make all the leaflets the same length? you wouldn't want 30 pages about italy and only 3 about kenya or something. when there is an obvious difference in length it can create unintentional hierarchy. Keep that in mind.
